Family Vacation

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

I hate to admit this, but Scott and I haven’t really gone on a vacation since 2004. We have taken mini vacations up to Sundance, but nothing farther away. We finally went to Zion National Park. I LOVE this place. I grew up going down there, so it’s one of the first places I always think of for vacations. We went down with my family. We left Thursday really early. My thinking was the kids will sleep on the way down. WRONG! Parker finally fell to sleep right before we hit St. George. We had so much fun hiking, playing in the sand, flying kites and being with one another. We were lucky enough to get to stay in a “pink house.” Meredith loved it! Parker loved that it still had Christmas lights on it! (they weren’t turned on.)
The weather was beautiful. It was pretty chilly in the morning, but once the sun hit the canyon floor it warmed right up. (In fact, now that we are home it’s pretty cold here!) All of us got a little sun. (Some of us more than others…Scott) We had a wonderful time, and now hope the kids get plenty of rest now that we are home. All of us are pretty exhausted!

Little Man

A couple of weeks ago we went and got Parker a “Big Boy Bed.” He has been so excited to sleep in it. Here is the bedspread I picked out…I am so sad that he is growing so big–I haven’t let him sleep in the bed yet, except for one nap time!!! I did almost let him sleep in it one night. After he fell to sleep I went to check on him and he was upside down and backwards so I put him back in the crib! I guess I’d better try again this week!

WHY?

Friday, March 6th, 2009

The forces in the universe were against me while I was doing laundry this week.   A little elf decided to hide crayons in his/her pockets of their pants without my knowing.  This of course resulted in me having a batch of darks being turned blotchy red.  (WHY is it always red)  I got most of it out, but Parker and I have  a few things that are pretty much ruined.

LESSON LEARNED:  Buy all red clothing…

This is so fun! I found this on the web and thought I would give it a try. It requires freezer paper, fabric paint, an iron, and a computer. You can find the freezer paper in the paper goods section of your grocery store. (Of course I got mine at Walmart!) Find a cute picture on the internet. I created my own, since I knew what I wanted. I cut my freezer paper to 8 x 10 and ran it through the printer. (Making sure the waxy side of the paper was NOT the side I printed on. Next, take an x-acto knife and cut the picture out saving only the white part. (Pictures are to follow.) After cutting everything out, iron on the freezer paper onto your fabric. You will need to also iron on a piece inside the fabric so it won’t bleed through. Now paint over the freezer paper using it as a stencil. Let it dry for about 24 hours. Now you’re done!

Anyone who knows me knows I always try to come up with new things to do with vinyl. This whole x-acto knife thing seemed like a pain in the butt and I knew I needed words cut out. I decided to try vinyl lettering on this. It worked like a charm! But you do need to peel off the vinyl words before it’s dry…Otherwise I don’t know if they will come off. After the paint is dry, iron over the top again using the freezer paper. I think it is so cute and easy. There’s a new fun thing to try with vinyl lettering or if you have more patience then me try the freezer paper!

New Vinyl Creations!

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

It’s a few weeks late, but I have a new vinyl creation. What makes them an added bonus? They are so easy! It’s on a canvas (I bought mine at Joanns) but they also have them at Walmart. I painted mine black, I am doing a set for my sister in law using red and white vinyl and can’t wait to see how they turn out!
